Emmett Clarkin

Emmett developed his passion for the natural world whilst growing up on a small family farm in the heart of the Sperrin Mountains, Northern Ireland. He rescued a Common pipistrelle bat from the ground of his family hay shed at the age of nine, after which his love affair with nature truly blossomed. His fascination for the ocean soon followed, influenced by regular family trips to the coastlines of Ireland’s wild Atlantic Northwest.

Emmett naturally went on to study ecological sciences at universities in the UK and Ireland, and after completing this Doctoral research on the ecology of macroalgae and its role for the dispersal and connectivity of marine species in the North Atlantic, he headed to Australia to work for the Australian Institute of Marine Science. Here, studying coral reef systems along the length of the Great Barrier Reef, Emmett soon discovered his passion for diving and underwater photography. Now working as a naturalist guide and expedition diver in the polar regions Emmett gets to explore some of the wildest places on the planet, allowing him to discover the fascinating wildlife found living in these remote environments first hand both above and below the polar seas.
